Following the meeting of the project steering group in June and the finalisation of a venue in London, we are delighted to announce that the FIA Gender project conference, entitled: "Gender Agenda: Women, Men, Age and Employment in the Performing Arts" will take place in the Drill Hall in London on the 15-16 September 2008. Website Section for the EuroFIA Project on Gender Portrayal and Employment Opportunities
FIA is currently leading an ambitious European research project entitled "Changing gender portrayal: Promoting employment opportunities for women in the performing arts”. Canadian performers win major dispute
FIA is proud to announce that ACTRA in Canada successfully won its first ever industrial action and was able to secure to English-speaking performers in Canada working on radio, television and film production the right to be fairly remunerated when their work is exploited on new media and the Internet.
Landmark meeting of performer organisations in Jakarta, Indonesia
FIA, together with the International Federation of Musicians, has held a very successful workshop with Indonesian performers’ organisations. Remarkably, this was the first time that anyone attempted to bring them together – only for them to realise they had much more to gain by pulling their energies together, rather than fighting their battle alone.
A slippery slope for performers?
FIA has decided to look into the relationship between the use of rakes on stage and the injuries that performers occur while rehearsing or playing, with a view to drafting minimum harmonised guidelines and, possibly also, promoting a code of conduct at European and international level.
New rules to regulate audiovisual media services in the EU
The European Commission threatens the future of cultural diversity by seeking to achieve a genuine internal market in the provision of audiovisual media services.
