Competition Rules and Cultural and Creative Workers - Joint Statement by Six European Federations

The European Federations representing Cultural and Creative workers (musicians, actors, technicians, journalists, screenwriters, directors, etc.) meet on a regular basis to exchange views on issues of common concern and undertake joint actions where useful.

The ongoing problem in relation to the application of competition rules to cultural workers, working on a freelance basis has long been a problem that is high on their agenda. This is an important issue that affects the fundamental rights of cultural and creative workers. FIA and the other Federations very much hope that the new Commission will take the lead in tackling it as a matter of priority.

To this end the Federations have drawn up a strong common position and call for action on this issue and have submitted it jointly to the Commissioners for Competition, Employment, Culture and Internal Market, as well as to the European Parliament.

The Federations involved in this initiative are:

The International Federation of Actors (FIA)
The International Federation of Musicians (FIM)
The Global Union for Media and Entertainment (UNI-MEI)
The International Federation of Journalists (IFJ)
The Federation of Scriptwriters in Europe (FSE)
The Federation of European Film Directors (FERA)
